“I got a bartending job.”
My friend said, “Why? I thought you already had a job.”
“I needed extra money.”
“For what?’
“I can’t tell you yet. It’s a work in progress when I get closer to the goal, you’ll see why. Anyway there is something weird about my boss, who is also a co-owner.”
“What you mean?”
“Uhhh, basically the orientation wasn’t like any other orientation I’ve been to. He basically said he use to sleep with all the bartenders and him and the other owner made a deal that if the bartenders sleep with him they had to get fired because the bartenders use to start feeling some type of way about him and become jealous, which got in the way of their work.”
“He said that to you?”
“In so many words and he also made a point to brag about his financial success over the years and how he “upgrades” women, so maybe that’s why they get in their feelings.”
“Oh wow!”
“And then he offered to get my nails done…”
“What? You’ve been getting your nails done since high school, was that offer supposed to impress you?”
“I know! But you know I stopped getting my nails done a couple of months before I moved to Houston. The money it took to up keep my nails was added to my moving fund. So, I kind of felt like he felt that he thought he was “upgrading” me by getting my nails done. I mean he could have just been protecting his lounge’s image because I’m serving drinks so people will be looking at my hands, but…something felt off.”
“Did he do it forreal?”
“Yeah, while I was talking to the other employees he slipped by and dropped $60 in my purse. I don’t know I felt some type of way about that.”
“You gave it back?”
“No! I got my mani, pedi, and my eye brows done…and took myself to lunch with that $60.”
She laughed and said, “Maybe it’s just what you said, he’s protecting his lounge’s image.”
“Yeah, but I just felt icky about it. But get this, drum roll please…. he’s a preacher.”
“Who’s a preacher?”
“My boss/co-owner of the lounge/the man who got my nails done!”
She took a deep breath and said, “He preaches what?”
I laughed and said, “The word, Psalms, the 10 commandments, Job, Ezekiel…umm “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want”, hallelujah, Amen…preaching Preacher.”
“You lying?”
“That’s what I said when somebody told me. It was a white girl who works there and she said they invited her to a review.”
“Review?”
I laughed and said “She meant revival and she said people were crying, screaming, and falling out. I sat in disbelief when she told me, but she didn’t see anything wrong with him or the story. He is forever having somebody fix him a Crown Royal and Sprite, knows every song they play in the lounge, and the night they hired me he was at the poker table getting mad because he was down $750.”
“All I know is where I’m from preachers don’t own lounges, drink Crown and Sprite, or talk about their sexual escapades with other staff members.”
“Ditto!”
My friend laughed and said, “So basically he used the church’s “Building Fund” to get your nails done?”
I laughed and said, “Or maybe somebody tithe’s money. I’m going to have to go to church this weekend and put that money in somebody offering. Forgive me Lord, for I not know what I do…nobody told me I was using the church’s money.”
We both said, “Scandalous!”
I couldn’t make this ish up if I tried.

@ Louisana Lickable Lips…LOL, okay got it. How was your Christmas?
Hey, Satin Doll!! I had a good Christmas. It was my first holiday with Big Daddy (he missed Thanksgiving b/c of work). We went to the Cowboys vs Saints game in Dallas, Tx & had a blast. I really enjoy him & love him…….Awwwwwwwww! How was your holidays? Any plans for the New Year?
It was okay…I am just glad that I only get to see certain family members once, maybe twice per year. I moved to Tampa about a month a go, so i will be spending it with my dad’s side of the family.
I am glad that you Big Daddy are doing great!
By the way, I just celebrated my birthday on the 29th…I turned 26….well, maybe not 26, but I feel like I am 26….that should count, right? LOL
Happpppppppy Birthay, boo!!
Thank you! And, you are so right.
…and you’re only as old as u feel!
*screaming* Happy Birthday!
Hun-tee, u should have seen my face, trying to figure out how 26 subtracts from 18, b/c I know u have a 17 or 18y/o son. Dnt worry, I feel the same way & I dress like Im in my early 20s!
Thank you, hon! LOL @ you doing your subtracting. I hear you… I do feel like I am 26
and I have a strong feeling that I am going to be 26 for awhile. LOL
Hope you and Big Daddy have a Happy New Year!
Hey! This is Rapid Relief. Im changing my name since I no longer work at that job.
Now, this doesnt surprise me at all……unfortunately. Living in Louisiana, we have a church almost on every street corner. Its ntg for a minister to have a jump-off. In fact, most deacons feel that as long as the preacher does his job, tht no one should be worried abt the preacher’s private life. IMHO, the Black church allows alot of scandalous, sneaky, immoral stuff to go down behind the scenes & they will cover for the pastor no matter wht. Tht was my city where the pastor on Inyanla Van Zandt: Fix My Life was from. That had been the tlk of the town for months back in 2010, but the congregation refused to ask him to step down. Just be careful, b/c some men feel tht once they give u money, u owe them smtg.
@Rapid Relief, it’s going to be weird reading your new name but I guess I have no choice. LOL!!! Anyway you are right…also the bible speaks about this as signs of the last days. You find that so many people do this from the pulpit its wrong but it happens. I missed that Iyanla fix my life episode. I must google seems like I must have missed something good….what did he do?
@Louisana Lickable Lips…I forgot to include your new name on post earlier….sorry. LOL I agree with you as well…some men start to act as though you owe them and its okay if the man is okay with not following up on that but some men are persistent and downright scary when they do not get their way. Be careful @Eb
@LoverbyNature
It’s gonna take me a minute to with RapidRelief’s new name.
The Commenter formerly known as RapidRelief…aka Louisiana Lickable Lips
Are you okay? I mean with the job situation…if not I will keep you in my prayers boo. Wait, I must of missed that episode of Iyanla Fix My Life. The last one I saw was with Maia Campbell.
Honestly, these churches bring in a whole lot of money. It’s almost like an honest hustle. Recite a few scriptures, put on your “preacher” voice, jump around a little bit for what…maybe an hour on a Sunday and boom you have tithe money, offerings, and the building fund money. If your church is online you have people from other states mailing or putting their credit card info in to get you money.
Honestly if you were pastor and you had a good following and one day you wake up and realize you just want to live your life/do what you do and not be on the right hand side of God, that means you also have to give up your livelihood and some people don’t want to give up the money. Maybe that’s why people should really put their faith in God, not man.
Im good. The clinic I was employed by closed. Now, Im working at a clinic in a hospital. Better pay, better benefits, but more stress…..of course.
I tell my mama ALL the time, tht Im gonna become a preacher. U can drive the best, live the best, & get much respect from the community just by being a preacher.
This is my problem with the Black Church. #1- There is NO governing board. Since Im a nurse, Im governed by the La State Board of Nsg. So, if I make a mistake, fail a random drug test, get arrested, or kill some1 in or outside of the hospital, the board will discipline me. Tht does not happen in the church. Some pastors, not all, cheat/steal/drink/drug with NO repercussions. He11, some of the churches will even put up bail money & pay child support payments. Another issue I have is that alot of these “preachers” have no education. They come of the street, give false hope, & hustle the ppl. They bring tht SAME hustle mentality into the church. I have a funny story I need to tell u abt, but Imma have to tell it in a way tht patient confidentiality isnt breached.
LOL at Louisiana Lickable Lips (BTW can I just say LLL for short) LOL You are correct, I am governed by FL Board of Nursing and VA and there are some churches that have boards but many mega churches are just stand alone and get more members and everything else this way and are never punished or sanctioned or anything. Also I can’t wait for you to figure out a way to tell that story because I sure what to know! LOL
A nice looking, yet thuggish (he had tattoos on both arms) came into the clinic. He wanted to be treated for STDs. He put down his occupation as a musician at a local church. When I saw tht, it all clicked & I realized he was the preacher tht I had heard abt who had a wife, but had several jump-offs around the city. He was a nice looking guy who had a certain swagg abt himself….in a hood kinda way. I treated him & sent him on his way. Well, he was back within a few mos. Gave the same story tht he dealt with a chick who called & told him tht she had smtg. Treated him again. He came BACK for the 3rd time. I was thinking, “Now this is ridiculous.” I ended up going to his church b/c I was invited & oooooowwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeee, was it a show!!!!! It was so EXTRA tht when I told my mom abt it, even she thought it was a practiced show. A HOT MESS!!!!!
OMG! Did I say OMG! Lol wow this guy obviously has no shame but I see that there is a lot of that going around any way. I have not watched the new show Sisterhood on TLC but have read about it and i cannot believe that preachers wives are supposedly doing a show….the bible say God is not mocked but it’s obvious…some do not believe in that…so crazy…folks in church have gone wacko….hope dude knows you don’t have cures for stupidity….geez!
I went to the church, mainly to be nosey. The Praise & Worship was awesome. Then, he started to preach & ordered his deacons to grab this homeless home off the street corner (the homeless man was walking in the parking lot). They take him to the alter, & the preacher pours holy oil on him, & begins to cast out demons. The homeless man starts to praise God & then he leaves, goes outside, eats a sandwich & chips. The preacher orders the deacons to bring the homeless man back into the church. He comes in & the preacher lays hands on him again. The man cries, claps his hands, & then leaves out of the church again. I dnt know if this was planned or not but it sure was jaw-dropping!
Wow really though…..God forgive me if I’m judging but sounds like a clown show to me…..they probably paid the homeless man in food! Lol
Interesting! I should not be amazed at this happening anymore as there are so many pastors doing things that does not match with the pulpit anymore. I remember the time you posted about the church deacon and his unscrupulous ways as well. Pastors are using pulpits as the next big money scheme and it is sickening. A friend of mine cousin was using his pulpit to launder money in a big illegal gambling, drug, money schemes. He was not even smart about it. His wife was a RN and he was a firefighter and pastor. She stopped working and they lived in a gigantic house on the hill with their two children. They had over 10 high priced cars and their two children went to the best schools. When the feds raided them the man is in prison for a long time while the wife did end up getting 7 years for her minor (I don’t know what he does to have all this money) role. It’s sickening how people use the church to get their agendas across. Great post! Be careful with that boss man though sounds like he will be trying to collect….oh but that will be funny when he realizes that you are not “about that life” LOL
@LoverByNature
Yeah The Preacher is a slick one, but I could sense that from a mile away. I’m going to continue to work, but I’m actively looking for another bartending job.
And wow at your cousin’s pastor he was into all that and acting like preacher. SMH
