Female Intuitions

“I have the same problem every time I go to sushi spots.” I said to my friend.

“What? Every sushi place has different names for their rolls.”

“Heck yeah. Why can’t they have universal names for the sushi rolls so I can avoid having to read the descriptions to figure out what I like?”

…And They Lived Happily Ever After

I said, “And then they lived happily ever after…” My friend said, “What do you mean by that?” I said, “Exactly what I said. At the end of the day more than most women just want that. To find prince charming and live happily.” He said, “Yeah, you about right.” I said, “It proves itself over and over again. After watching Whitney Houston’s last Oprah interview and then watching what Patricia Houston said in the interview with Oprah last night it’s obvious Whitney wanted to be a mother, happily in love, and married. And she’s not the only woman to want that or feel that way. Hell, I look at J.Lo. I love her because she loves like she never loved before. Well, at least that’s comes across in the  pictures the media decides to show us. Even when I watched her “Behind the Music” episode on VH1 her family talked about how no matter what happened she always wanted her own family and love. Janet Jackson (I love her) had two secret marriages on us. I mean we are talking about women who are gorgeous, smart, and rich…they still just wanted the title as loving wife.”

Road Trip

Kendra and I were excited as we drove down I-75 north. Kendra said, “All that stuff I packed and I’m still not sure what I want to wear to the concert.” I said, “You and me both.  I have two bags packed to the max and I even bought something new to wear to the concert, but I’m not sure if that’s what I want to wear.” She said, “Did you finally find the jeggings you were trying to buy from the Kardashian Kollection?” I busted into laughter and said, “I didn’t tell you what happened with those? Girl, I went to FOUR malls looking for those things and either they didn’t have them or they were only larges left. I can’t even remember the last time I went to Sears, but me trying to hunt down them jeggings had me at every Sears in this area. I found a pair in small, but their small looked really small, but by that time I was getting nervous because I had been to three malls already with no luck and the jeggings were sold out online. So, I grabbed the small to try them on.”

The Atheist

I don’t really remember the first time I met Jo, but I’m sure it was some time in the 9th grade. She was short, funny, and had all the confidence in the world. We ended up becoming great friends over the years. We’ve had funny, tearful, crazy, and outrageous moments. She’s the person I would call if I needed someone to be in the passenger seat to do some investigative work. She was the person I would talk about God with. She’s the person that would have dance battles with me in the middle of dance floor in a nightclub or in the middle of my living room. She’s the person I would call between commercial breaks during our favorite television shows to talk about what just happened.

The Comparison Report

Boy #1’s sister called me when she got off work and said, “Where you been?” I said, “Work, school, blog, and work. Where you been? I called you the other day.” She said, “Work!” I said, “Yeah, I figured that. Because Lord knows you don’t go anywhere.” She said, “Whatever happened to the State Trooper guy?” I said, “We been out a few times and when I say out I mean planted in front of his living room television, channel surfing since the last time I spoke with you.” She said, “You don’t sound excited about it.” I said, “It’s not exciting.” She said, “Then why you hanging out with him?” I said, “Because he’s not a bad guy…it’s just…I don’t know.” She said, “Oh, you want Mr. Congeniality! You’re 25 now and you’re still somewhat on the scene, but trust me when you get my age what you want in a man will change. You’re going to want his butt to stay home.” I said, “Hell, I want him to stay home now. Just not all the damn time! I’m not trying to be like an old married couple sitting on the porch every day.” She said, “We can solve this problem. Just date a white man.” I laughed and said, “How is that solving the problem?” She said, “I don’t know. It seems like it would solve it though.”

Is He Boring or Do I Like Drama?

I went to lunch with my co-worker one Tuesday afternoon. After a few minutes of small talk she said, “What ever happened with Officer Cutie?” I said, “I’m not interested.” My co-worker said, “Already?” I said, “He’s boring.” She said, “What do you mean boring?” I said, “I need excitement. I want to laugh. I don’t want to hang out with somebody that makes me think of everything else that I could be doing while I’m in their company.” My co-worker said, “What you need a person that will do magic tricks when you’re around?” I laughed and said, “Nooo.”

A Sure Thing

I showed up at a day party and a little apprehensive because I just knew somebody would have on my tribal printed romper. Bhoranie and I ordered a couple of $2 mimosas and were enjoying the vibe and people watching. I saw Notorious standing on the other side of the deck but I was happy I had on a pair shades so I could act like I didn’t notice him, but then I saw somebody that I couldn’t help but notice.

Shacking Up

Lauren and I walked into Roxys and immediately we were glad we came out. She grabbed my arm and said, “Oh I didn’t tell you Maria broke up with her boyfriend.” I said, “Really?” Maria was a mutual friend Lauren and I had in college. Maria is an African American version of Kim Kardashian. From Maria’s body to her personality to her really wanting to be married reminded me of Kim K.  After a few failed relationships with current professional athletes Maria finally decided to give this guy named Jackson a try.

Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts, No More Thoughts

While watching Eat, Pray, Love one of the characters named Richard told Julia Robert’s character Elizabeth Gilbert, “Groceries” (Richard’s nickname for Gilbert), you need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select what clothes you’re gonna wear every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind because if you can’t learn to master your thinking, you’re in deep trouble forever.”

Time Heals All Wounds…or Does It?

I met Lauren in 2007. She started dating one of my good friends/neighbors and instantly our entire building liked her. Trust me for every individual in our apartment building to agree that we all liked one person was unheard of up until we met Lauren. I instantly took to Lauren because she was genuine, sweet, funny, and considerate. Since we all moved from Tallahassee it’s been hard keeping up with everybody but it was becoming embarrassing to tell people I hadn’t saw Lauren in person in over six months seeing as though I pass her apartment complex at least five times a week. So we decided to meet for lunch at Elephant Bar to catch up.
