“How’s Houston?”
…Howdy Houston
Goodbye Florida…
I looked at all my belongings stacked neatly in my trunk and back seat. “Maybe I should take my mom’s advice and stay until December.” I was definitely having second thoughts. I knew I didn’t want to be in Orlando anymore, but knowing I was about to leave was an overwhelming feeling. “Don’t cry.” I thought. A million questions popped in my head, “Am I making a mistake?” “Is Houston the right place for me?” “What if something happens and I need to be home immediately?” “Why was I so determined to move in the first place?” “Am I moving to Houston because I couldn’t move to Los Angeles?”
California Dreaming…
I took a deep breath and said, “So…I was thinking this would be a good opportunity for me to move. Financially I will be okay for a while so I’m thinking I should take time out this summer and visit D.C. and NY for other opportunities. I’m not tied down to any other obligations so I can put my full focus on a potential move. I’ve mapped out a plan and hopefully I will be able to relocate by the end of the summer. In a perfect world it would be at the beginning of the summer.”
Fasting with Daniel
The first few days of The Daniel Fast I felt like I was at an AA meeting in jail. Going out takes on a whole new meaning when you take out meats, desserts, and cocktails. I was literally obsessed with the food part of The Daniel Fast, but about a week into it I got really involved in the other aspects of the fast. I hoped I would figure out what I wanted to do with my life.
The Daniel Fast
I needed answers. I found myself at a cross roads. I moved back to Orlando two and half years ago. Anybody who knows me knew that Orlando wasn’t the city I wanted to call home post-graduation. I ended up here so I decided to make the best of it. I got a job and started an online graduate program.
Angry Birds
My friend said, “You’re not the person I thought you were.” I said, “Excuse me?” She said, “You actually feel bad when you hear an ex-boo isn’t doing well? Every time I hear about a guy that does me wrong and he starts suffering personally or professionally…I think it’s karma for how the way he did me.” I looked at her with a grin on my face and said, “You’re an angry bird.” She slapped my arm and said, “Don’t be calling me a bird.” I said, “Not that type of bird, fool…like the game Angry Birds.”
The Action Figure
I walked into the gym early Saturday morning thinking it wouldn’t be many people working out on an early Saturday morning, but I was wrong. It was a full house of toned up people or at least at that moment everybody looked to be in tip top shape to me. A black guy built like Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard approached me and said, “May I help you?” I said, “Yeah, I need to work out.” He said, “I can help you with that. Is this is your first time here?” I said, “Yeah and it’s my first time working out in like forever.” He said, “What made you come in?” I said, “I use to be about 95% happy with my body…now I’m at 60% so I need to get this right.” He said, “Oh, you want to look like me?” I laughed and said, “Ummm negative! I’m not trying to be built like an action figure.” He laughed and said, “What you mean?” I said, “Action figures are always extra muscular up top and have small legs…NO GO!” He laughed and said, “Not Superman or Batman.” I said, “Umm The Incredible Hulk and the daddy from The Incredibles.” He busted into laughter.
The Update
I just realized I have 100 posts. That is crazy seeing as though I feel like I just started blogging yesterday. So, in honor of these 100 posts I decided to update you guys on some of the people in my blog. So here goes…
I Am Not My Hair!…I Think.
Marie and I went to dinner at Ocean Prime one Saturday evening. The last time I saw Marie was a few months ago. I was completely shocked to see her short haircut. I said, “You look different.” She said, “You’re use to seeing me with long extensions.” I said, “That is true! I never saw you without super long hair. I like the cut though.”
Time Heals All Wounds…or Does It?
I met Lauren in 2007. She started dating one of my good friends/neighbors and instantly our entire building liked her. Trust me for every individual in our apartment building to agree that we all liked one person was unheard of up until we met Lauren. I instantly took to Lauren because she was genuine, sweet, funny, and considerate. Since we all moved from Tallahassee it’s been hard keeping up with everybody but it was becoming embarrassing to tell people I hadn’t saw Lauren in person in over six months seeing as though I pass her apartment complex at least five times a week. So we decided to meet for lunch at Elephant Bar to catch up.
